I got a little stir crazy this winter

Hi friend,

Spring is almost here!

Have you noticed the light lingering longer? Tiny buds coming up from the ground? Even in southeast Michigan, I am beginning to see the signs of life.

I wrote a deeper reflection on spring over on Substack this week. This is where I write more personally about home, intention, food, stewardship, and the deeper why behind this lifestyle.

Here’s a small snippet from that post:

As the days lengthen and the earth wakes from its winter retreat, the arrival of spring marks a significant turning point in the year. The equinox is about balance—equal night and day—and it invites us to pause before stepping fully into a season of light, warmth, and abundance. Beyond the shifting patterns of the sun, spring is also a spiritual reminder of God’s design, His rhythms of creation, and the promise of renewal found in Scripture.

If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to join me over there. I will continue sending weekly (ish) seasonal musings. You can subscribe here.

On a more practical note, I got stir-crazy this winter and added several new recipes to the blog...Here are a few highlights:

A crowd fav, I posted this one for my sister-in-law:

Salted Caramel Granola

For my sourdough folks:

Sourdough Tortillas

For my non-sourdough folks:

Homemade Tortillas

Save the extra purchase:

How to Make Brown Sugar

Head over to the blog for more simple, from-scratch, no-waste recipes. If you have any recipe or tutorial requests, let me know!

Thanks for hanging around, grateful you are here!

Happy Spring,

Jodie

Hey Reader, I often get asked for the best resources on becoming more self-sufficient, and I just saw that my friends over at the School of Traditional Skills are opening registration for their annual Spring Into Action Summit. I love their approach because they aren't talking about "hobby gardening." They focus on the "Action" part—building a garden that actually puts food on your table and lowers your grocery costs. I love this community, and the folks they bring in to teach are legit. It's...

Hi friend, As Thanksgiving approaches, I wanted to pause for a moment and send you a simple note of gratitude. I’m so thankful you’re here, reading, learning, trying new things, caring for your home, and choosing a slower, more intentional way of living right alongside me. Whether you’ve been with me for years or just joined recently, your presence here truly matters. You’re the reason I get to share recipes, projects, and the heart behind living with less waste and more purpose. I hope your...

It's the equinox, friends! Are we ready for the shift? I am and sort of not. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons, and the equinox marks the start of it. So that's great. The darker mornings are a bit harder for me to get going, but the early evenings are the BEST! My husband doesn't understand me when I say that it should always be dark by 9 pm. Who is with me?? I love the way God designed the earth with these built-in rhythms. The darker and cooler season calls for cozy sweaters,...
